The tradesman
unit weighs 8 pounds. Any tradesman for whom this unit was
designed for is used to carrying weight. Their tools
actually weigh more than the harness. The harness has to be
strong enough to carry you and your tools and make sure that
neither you nor your tools hit the ground. We use forged
steel D-rings and other connections because of this.
The standard unit
weighs 5 pounds but does not have your tool belt or extra
D-rings for use in positioning.
There are
variations of the harness that can be used including
different materials and we can make the harness lighter.
As a reminder, we
have the newest technology in 53 years which WILL protect
your workers better than the others; reduces the slamming
effect which no other harness can do. No other harness can
absorb downward inertia like ours does. There are eight
recognized hazards in the field that can be eliminated by
this harness that no other harness in existence can
eliminate.
Other harnesses
were designed to keep the worker from hitting the ground...
ours was also designed to not only keep the worker from
hitting the ground but will alleviate injuries when they
fall.
We are working
with OSHA in an attempt to get the standards raised and if
and when we are successful then you won’t be able to use
other harnesses at all. OSHA is contemplating the use of the
harness in training in their 24 nationwide centers that
train in fall protection and provide 10 and 30 hour OSHA
training courses. Additionally, OSHA Compliance Officers
will be trained as to the new technology. Since a number of
hazards can now be alleviated, when violations are seen
companies will be cited. Other organizations such as the AGC,
and ASSE are regularly being notified as to live
demonstrations in different areas around the country in
order to show them the new technology.
The carpenters
union has been instrumental in helping us get this product
into the industry and is training their apprentices in the
use of this equipment. They are in the process of informing
their members and union contractors that this product is out
there and they would prefer its use when their workers are
employed by them.
As a manufacturer, we can specially make
harnesses for “hard-to-fit” people. This is a specialty
order but should take no longer to provide to them than a
regular harness. The price is usually the same unless extra
webbing or accessories are needed. Then the extra charge is
usually minimal.
